Please note that submission information will be given to retreat attendees during or after the retreat.

Katrina Damkoehler, Assistant Art Director, will be leading our Illustrator Track.

Katrina Damkoehler is currently Assistant Art Director at Random House Children’s Publishing, where she designs and art directs approximately 35 middle grade and picture book titles per year. She was previously Art Director at Amazon Children’s Publishing. Recent projects she art directed include the 2015 Geisel Award-winner “You Are Not Small” (Anna Kang & Christopher Weyant), “Grover Cleveland, Again” (Ken Burns & Gerald Kelley), and “The Seekers” (Hari & Deepti).

Carter Hasegawa, editor, will be leading our Picture Book Track.

Carter Hasegawa is an editor at Candlewick Press. He also works part-time as a photographer with Long River Photo and as a bookseller at Porter Square Books in Cambridge, MA. Some of his favorite, non-Candlewick books include: The Notorious Benedict Arnold; Jellicoe Road; Clementine; Ender’s Game; Three Times Lucky; Imogene’s Antlers; the Elephant & Piggie books; George and Martha; Good Night, Gorilla; Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes; and many, MANY others. Basically anything that has a great voice, is a good story, and is “unputdownable.”

Anne Rose, literary agent, will be leading our Novel Track.

Ann Rose is one of Prospect Agency’s newest agents, but she isn’t new to publishing. Over the last few years she has been exploring this field by working and mentoring with literary agents in various capacities. Everything she has experienced from editorial work to the magic of finding the perfect match between author and editor has hardened her resolve to join this wonderful profession. Now she’s thrilled to be building her own list and is actively seeking clients ready to grow amazing careers with her. Ann’s perfect manuscript is a character driven story that isn’t afraid to push boundaries. She loves an unlikeable character — even though she is incredibly likable herself!

Ann is also the author of two YA novels, Road to Eugenica (18), and Breakout (19) both from Entangled Teen.
