This year instead of our usual large conference, we will be hosting a more intimate retreat.
The retreat will be held October 4-6 at the Lakeview Camp and Retreat Center in Waxahachie. The retreat will host 3 faculty members – one agent, one editor, and one art director. The cost will be $300 person which includes 5 meals and two nights at the lodge on site. Lodging will be two people per room. If you have a roommate request, please enter that person’s name in the comment section when registering.
Attendees will be divided into 3 tracks (picture book, novel, and illustrator) with only 20 people per track. That means that there are only 60 slots open. The more intimate nature of the retreat allows for each attendee to have face time with our amazing faculty.
Carter Hasegawa, editor at Candlewick Press will be the facilitator for the Picture Book Track.
Ann Rose, agent at Prospect Literary will be the facilitator for the Novel Track.
Katrina Damkoehler, Art Director with Random House will be the facilitator for the Illustrator Track.
Instead of lectures, attendees will participate in workshops lead by faculty members. Each picture book and novel track attendee is guaranteed to have the first page of their manuscript heard by a faculty member and each illustrator is guaranteed to have a sample of their work viewed by the visiting art director.
We will open pre-registration on February 5 and go through March 31. Pre-registration requires a $100 non-refundable deposit to lock in a spot in a specific track. The 2nd payment of $100 will be due on or before June 1st and if we have available spots the 2nd round of registration will open from June 5 – July 5 but the required down payment will be $200.
The final payment of $100 will be due on or before September 1st and if we still have open spots, the third and final registration will open from Sept 5 – Oct 5 but the full payment of $300 will be required at that time.

Information on first pages and illustrator portfolio contests will be sent via email to all registered attendees after the 2nd round of registration.
