Expert Speaker Panel of Published Authors and Illustrators
Our expert panel will answer all your burning questions about where do you get ideas, how do you write, how do you market, how do you get published!

Our panel experts are:

Christine Kohler, whose debut novel NO SURRENDER SOLDIER (Simon Pulse/Merit Press) was her 17th book published in ABA and CBA trade, mass, education, and library markets. Kohler began her writing career in 1982 when she sold her second children’s book she’d written to the second publisher she mailed it to—Concordia Publishing House. Kohler is also published in books by Zondervan, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Rosen, Enslow, and Compass.

Jessica S Olson is a Young Adult fantasy author whose debut, SING ME FORGOTTEN (Inkyard Press/HarperCollins, 2021) and a second novel sold for six figures at auction. She is also a 2018 PitchWars alum, the 2018 QueryKombat YA champion, and is represented by Christa Heschke of McIntosh & Otis Literary Agency.

Janee Trasler is the author of many books for children, including the popular Chickies series with HarperCollins and the forthcoming Frog and Dog series coming out in 2020 from Scholastic’s new Acorn line of early readers.

Beth Mills is an author/illustrator whose debut picture book, ELLA MCKEEN, KICKBALL QUEEN published by Carolroda books, offers a pitch-perfect look at recess, friendship, and being a good sport. She also won the 2018 SCBWI Narrative Illustration award.

Kathryn Lay has many published writings including CROWN ME, a humorous middle grade from Holiday House, JOSH’S HALLOWEEN PUMPKIN, a picture book from Pelican Publishing Company, as well as 31 educational press books, 2000 magazine pieces, and 34 anthologies.

Diane Roberts is a puppeteer, and has two humorous middle-grade books with Random House, MADE YOU LOOK and PUPPET PANDAMONIUM. “I think in rhyme. My dream is to figure out how to pen a fun PB, with lots of humor, using my silly rhymes. I think kids respond to rhyming books and remember the refrains so well. Humor is my first love. Laughter is medicine for the soul. Chocolate comes in second.”
